Description

Flaky golden puff pastry parcels filled with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and basil, inspired by classic Caprese flavors. Perfect as a light lunch, appetizer, or elegant snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, gently toss the sliced tomatoes with olive oil, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Lay the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
  4. Place a slice of fresh mozzarella in the center of each square. Top with a few tomato slices and fresh basil leaves.
  5. Fold the corners of each square toward the center and pinch lightly to form a parcel.
  6. Transfer the parcels to the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Pat the tomatoes dry before assembling to prevent excess moisture.
  • Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use for best puffing results.
  • Reheat leftovers in a 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven for 8 to 10 minutes to restore crispness.
  • You can assemble the parcels ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to bake.
