Description

A golden, flaky puff pastry wrapped around a creamy Camembert wheel, lightly sweetened with honey and finished with fresh thyme and black pepper. This elegant yet simple baked cheese is perfect for sharing and makes a stunning appetizer for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) Camembert wheel, whole
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.25 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the Camembert wheel on a flat surface and drizzle the top with honey. Sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves and black pepper.
  3. Lay the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Place the prepared Camembert in the center of the pastry.
  5. Fold the pastry up and over the cheese, sealing the edges tightly underneath.
  6. Transfer seam side down onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Beat the egg and brush it evenly over the pastry.
  8. Lightly score the top for decoration if desired.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

  • Do not remove the rind from the Camembert, it helps maintain structure while baking.
  • Chill the wrapped cheese for 10 minutes before baking to help it hold its shape.
  • Serve immediately while the center is soft and molten.
  • Reheat leftovers gently in a 350°F oven for about 8 minutes.
