Description

Warm, golden pretzel bites with a soft and fluffy center, brushed generously with melted butter and finished with coarse salt for that classic chewy and savory snack experience.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add all purpose flour and salt, then mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully add baking soda.
  6. Divide dough into ropes and cut into bite sized pieces.
  7. Boil dough pieces in the baking soda water for 20 to 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush each bite with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Immediately brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • Do not skip the baking soda bath for authentic pretzel texture.
  • Brush with butter while still warm for best flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to restore softness.
