- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8 by 8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
- Press half of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a small bowl, combine additional brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling, then sprinkle evenly over the base layer.
- Gently press the remaining dough over the filling to form the top layer.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until lightly golden and set in the center.
- Allow the bars to cool completely. Whisk powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over the top. Let the glaze set before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Do not overbake to keep the bars soft and tender.
- Allow the bars to cool fully before glazing for clean slices.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For freezing, freeze without glaze and add fresh glaze after thawing.
