Description

Best Vanilla Cake is a soft, fluffy, and moist cake made with simple ingredients that creates a perfect base for any frosting, topped with your favorite icing for a classic dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the sour cream until smooth.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Frost with your favorite frosting once cooled.

  • For a lighter cake, make sure not to overmix the batter.
