Ingredients
Scale
- 6 ounces ziti pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes
- 3/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 to 6 fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bring a medium saucepan of salted water to a boil and cook ziti until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Combine cooked ziti with the tomato sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Divide half of the pasta mixture evenly between two mini skillets.
- Add dollops of ricotta cheese throughout each skillet.
- Top with remaining pasta mixture, then sprinkle evenly with remaining mozzarella and grated parmesan.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden at the edges.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
Notes
- Cook pasta just until al dente to prevent overcooking during baking.
- Allow the skillets to rest before serving so the layers can set properly.
- Use freshly grated parmesan for best flavor.
- If assembling ahead, refrigerate and add 5 extra minutes to baking time.
