Description
Za’atar Fire Crackers are a crispy and savory snack flavored with the aromatic spice blend of za’atar and a touch of heat, perfect for dipping or snacking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp za’atar spice blend
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, za’atar, and cayenne pepper.
- Add olive oil and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add water and stir until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, one teaspoon at a time.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out thinly, about 1/8-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into squares or rectangles using a knife or pizza cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the crackers with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds (if using).
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden and crisp.
- Let the crackers cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can sprinkle some extra za’atar on top of the crackers before baking.
- These crackers can be served with hummus, cheese, or a dip of your choice.
- If you like more heat, you can increase the cayenne pepper to your preference.
