Description

A playful and satisfying burger made with crispy sweet potato waffles instead of traditional buns, layered with juicy seasoned beef, creamy feta, and smooth avocado for the perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, about 500 grams, peeled and grated
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour (about 30 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pound ground beef (about 450 grams), 80 percent lean
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese (about 75 grams)
  • 1 large ripe avocado, mashed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle maker and lightly grease it. Heat a skillet over medium heat for the patties.
  2. In a bowl, combine grated sweet potatoes, eggs, flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until evenly incorporated.
  3. Divide the mixture into four portions and press each portion firmly into the waffle maker. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes until golden and crisp. Set aside.
  4. Season the ground beef with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Shape into four equal patties.
  5. Add olive oil to the skillet and cook patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. Let the patties rest for a few minutes.
  6. Mash the avocado with a small pinch of salt if desired.
  7. Assemble by spreading mashed avocado on one sweet potato waffle, placing a beef patty on top, sprinkling with crumbled feta, and topping with another waffle. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Squeeze excess moisture from the grated sweet potatoes for crispier waffles.
  • Do not open the waffle maker too early to prevent breaking the waffles.
  • Let the patties rest before assembling to keep them juicy.
  • Reheat waffles in a toaster or oven to maintain crispness.
