Description

Sweet Heat Smashed Potatoes are a flavorful combination of crispy, golden-brown smashed potatoes with a touch of sweetness and heat from honey and chili flakes. The balance of savory and spicy makes these potatoes a delicious side dish or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs baby potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the baby potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and allow them to cool slightly. Once cooled, gently smash each potato with a fork or potato masher until flattened but not falling apart.
  4. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, honey, red pepper flakes, paprika, salt, black pepper, and minced garlic to make the sauce.
  5. Place the smashed potatoes on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with the honey-spice mixture. Toss the potatoes gently to coat them evenly.
  6. Bake the potatoes in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until they are golden and crispy on the edges, flipping them halfway through the cooking time.
  7. Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your heat preference.
  • For an extra crispy texture, you can broil the potatoes for the last 2-3 minutes of baking.
  • These potatoes can also be made with Yukon Gold or russet potatoes if you prefer a different variety.
