Description

Soft and golden Swedish Cream Apple Rings filled with tender diced apples and a rich cream layer, finished with a smooth vanilla glaze for a comforting Scandinavian inspired treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk, for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until slightly foamy.
  3. Add granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Evenly spread diced apples over the surface and drizzle heavy cream on top.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and shape it into a ring on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon milk to form a smooth glaze.
  11. Drizzle glaze over the slightly warm pastry before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • Allow the pastry to cool slightly before glazing for a thicker finish.
  • Use firm apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
