Description
Sproutyflower Cheese is a creative twist on the classic cauliflower cheese, incorporating sprouted broccoli for added flavor and nutrition in a creamy cheese sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
- 1 cup sprouted broccoli (or regular broccoli), chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the cauliflower florets and sprouted broccoli in salted water for 5-7 minutes, or until tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
- Slowly add the milk while whisking continuously until smooth. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the grated cheese and garlic powder (if using) until the sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine the cauliflower and broccoli in an ovenproof dish and pour the cheese sauce over the vegetables, making sure they are evenly coated.
- If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for a crispy texture.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a stronger flavor, you can mix in some Parmesan cheese with the cheddar.
- To add a spicy kick, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cheese sauce.
- Feel free to use any other cheese like Gruyère or mozzarella for different flavors.
