Description
Shortcut Cherry Danish is a quick and easy pastry made with store-bought puff pastry, filled with sweetened cream cheese and cherry pie filling. Perfect for a quick breakfast or dessert with a deliciously flaky crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup cherry pie filling
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 squares.
- In a bowl, mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Spoon a small amount of cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese mixture.
- Fold the corners of each pastry square towards the center, pinching the edges to form a pocket.
- Beat the egg and brush the top of each pastry with the egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can use other fruit pie fillings like blueberry or apple if preferred.
- For a glaze, mix powdered sugar and milk to drizzle over the pastries after baking.
- These can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days, though they are best eaten fresh.
