Description
Qeema is a traditional South Asian minced meat dish cooked with aromatic spices, onions, tomatoes, and sometimes peas or potatoes. It’s flavorful, versatile, and typically served with roti, naan, or rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or mutton
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup green peas or 1 potato (optional)
- 1/2 cup water
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- 2 green chilies, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and oil starts to separate.
- Mix in all the spices: turmeric, chili powder, coriander, garam masala, and salt.
- Add ground meat and cook until it changes color, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- Pour in water, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the meat is fully cooked.
- If using peas or diced potatoes, add them and cook until tender.
- Uncover and cook on high heat for a few minutes to reduce excess moisture.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and green chilies before serving.
Notes
- Can be made with beef, mutton, or chicken mince.
- Serve with naan, roti, or steamed rice.
- Adjust spice levels to suit your preference.
- Leftovers make a great filling for samosas or parathas.
