Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Cheese
- 8 oz thinly sliced ribeye steak
- 6–8 oz provolone cheese slices
Vegetables
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 medium bell pepper, thinly sliced
Dough and Seasonings
- 1 lb Italian or pizza dough
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing and brushing)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder or 1 clove minced garlic
Instructions
- Prepare the steak and vegetables: Begin by thinly slicing the ribeye steak. Heat a splash of olive oil in a hot pan and quickly sauté the steak with garlic, salt, and pepper until just cooked. Remove the steak and set aside. In the same pan, lightly sauté the sliced onions and bell peppers until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll the Italian or pizza dough into a large rectangle approximately 12 by 16 inches to ensure even filling distribution and ease of rolling.
- Layer the filling: Evenly spread the sautéed onions and peppers over the dough, followed by the sliced steak. Then layer provolone cheese slices generously over the top, leaving a small border along the edges for sealing.
- Roll and seal the stromboli: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, similar to a cinnamon roll. Pinch the seam and both ends securely to prevent any filling from leaking during baking.
- Brush and bake: Transfer the rolled stromboli to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the outside with olive oil for a glossy finish and sprinkle garlic powder or your preferred Italian seasoning on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20 to 25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and slice: Remove the stromboli from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to set. Slice into thick rounds and enjoy the gooey, melty cheese in every bite.
Notes
- Use thin steak slices for quick cooking and tender texture.
- Avoid overfilling to prevent a soggy crust or filling leakage.
- Let the stromboli rest before slicing for cleaner cuts and less messy cheese.
- Brush crust with olive oil or egg wash to achieve a beautiful golden color.
- Experiment with seasonings like smoked paprika or oregano for added depth.
