Description

Overnight Caramel French Toast is a decadent make-ahead breakfast layered with rich caramel, soft custard-soaked French bread, and warm cinnamon-vanilla flavors. Perfect for holidays, brunch, or treating yourself to a stress-free morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 slices French bread, sliced ½ inch thick
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 12.25 ounces caramel topping (1 jar)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and melted butter until smooth.
  2. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and pour caramel topping into the bottom, spreading evenly.
  3. Layer bread slices tightly over the caramel in the dish.
  4. Pour egg mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down gently to help absorb the custard.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. In the morning, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the dish rest at room temperature for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and set.
  8. Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for best texture and custard absorption.
  • Customize with nuts, fruit, or chocolate chips before baking.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the custard for balance.
