Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large round loaf of Italian bread (about 10 inches in diameter)
- 1/4 lb salami, sliced
- 1/4 lb ham, sliced
- 1/4 lb mortadella, sliced
- 1/4 lb provolone cheese, sliced
- 1/4 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1/2 cup olive salad (or store-bought muffuletta olive salad)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Slice the bread horizontally, leaving the top and bottom intact, forming a sandwich bun.
- In a small bowl, combine olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper to make a dressing.
- Drizzle the dressing over the inside of both the top and bottom of the bread.
- Layer the salami, ham, mortadella, provolone, and mozzarella cheese evenly on the bottom half of the bread.
- Spread the olive salad on top of the cheeses, covering the entire surface.
- Top with the other half of the bread to close the sandwich.
- Press the sandwich down gently, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Slice into wedges and serve cold or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use a sturdy, round loaf of bread to hold all the ingredients.
- Olive salad can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For extra flavor, let the sandwich sit overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
