Description
Mini Beef Wellingtons are bite-sized versions of the classic dish, featuring tender beef wrapped in a flavorful mushroom duxelles and puff pastry, creating an elegant appetizer or main course perfect for special occasions.

- 1 lb beef tenderloin (cut into 6–8 small pieces)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the beef tenderloin pieces with salt and pepper, then sear each piece for 2–3 minutes on all sides until browned. Remove from heat and brush with Dijon mustard. Let cool.
- In the same skillet, add onions and garlic, cooking until softened. Add chopped mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and become golden, about 5–7 minutes. Stir in the thyme and white wine (if using) and cook until the liquid evaporates. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut into squares large enough to wrap around each beef piece.
- Place a spoonful of the mushroom mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Top with a piece of beef and fold the pastry around it, sealing the edges tightly.
- Brush the wrapped Wellingtons with the beaten egg and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a different flavor, substitute mushrooms with a mixture of spinach or roasted peppers in the duxelles.
- These mini Wellingtons can be prepared in advance and frozen before baking. Bake straight from the freezer for about 30 minutes.
- Serve with a side of horseradish sauce or gravy for added flavor.
