Description

A hearty layered casserole made with tender sliced potatoes, savory ground turkey, sweet green peas, creamy homemade sauce, and a golden blend of melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground turkey with diced onion and minced garlic until browned and fully cooked. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and chicken broth, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  6. Top with half of the cooked turkey mixture, half of the green peas, and pour over part of the sauce.
  7. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, turkey, peas, and sauce.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar evenly over the top, and bake uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly and potatoes are fork tender.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes evenly to ensure proper cooking.
  • Allow the sauce to thicken fully before layering.
  • Let the casserole rest before serving to help it set.
