Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound dried spaghetti pasta
- 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- Two 45-ounce jars marinara or pasta sauce
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1½ cups shredded yellow cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Spread half of the spaghetti in the baking dish, then layer with half of the sauce mixture and a handful of cheese. Repeat the layers and top with remaining yellow and white cheddar cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Cook pasta slightly underdone so it finishes perfectly in the oven.
- Drain the beef well to avoid excess grease.
- For added creaminess, mix a spoonful of ricotta or cream cheese into the sauce.
- Let casserole rest before serving for clean, layered slices.
