Description
Grilled Naan is a soft, fluffy Indian flatbread cooked over a grill, giving it a smoky flavor and crispy edges, perfect for pairing with curries or as a wrap.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter
- 3/4 cup warm water (adjust as needed)
- Butter or ghee for brushing
- Optional: minced garlic or fresh herbs for flavor
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Add yogurt and oil, then gradually add warm water while mixing to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 1-2 hours in a warm place.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a tear-drop or oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- Place the rolled naan on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form and grill marks appear.
- Flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes.
- Remove from grill and brush with melted butter or ghee.
- Serve warm with your favorite curry or chutney.
Notes
- Adding garlic or herbs to the dough adds extra flavor.
- For a softer naan, cover with a clean towel after grilling.
- Use a cast-iron skillet if a grill is unavailable.
- Grilling adds a smoky flavor but can be substituted with stovetop cooking.
