Description
Gravy is a savory sauce made from meat drippings, flour, and broth, perfect for enhancing the flavor of meats, mashed potatoes, and more.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons butter or drippings
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef, chicken, or vegetable broth
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, melt butter or heat drippings over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a smooth roux (paste). The flour should turn a light golden color.
- Gradually add the broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- Once thickened to your liking, remove from heat and serve. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
- If the gravy is too thick, add more broth or water to reach the desired consistency.
- For a richer flavor, you can use pan drippings from roasted meats instead of butter.
- For a smoother texture, strain the gravy before serving.
