Description

Gravy is a savory sauce made from meat drippings, flour, and broth, perfect for enhancing the flavor of meats, mashed potatoes, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter or drippings
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef, chicken, or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter or heat drippings over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a smooth roux (paste). The flour should turn a light golden color.
  3. Gradually add the broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  5. Once thickened to your liking, remove from heat and serve. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • If the gravy is too thick, add more broth or water to reach the desired consistency.
  • For a richer flavor, you can use pan drippings from roasted meats instead of butter.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the gravy before serving.
