Description
Soft and fluffy garlic bread baked in a loaf pan and topped with golden melted fontina cheese. This savory loaf is rich, aromatic, and perfect for serving alongside soups, pasta, or enjoying warm with butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 1/2 cups fontina cheese, shredded
Instructions
- In a large bowl dissolve the granulated sugar in the warm water and sprinkle the active dry yeast on top. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the olive oil, then gradually add the all purpose flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently, shape into a loaf, and place it into a lightly greased loaf pan.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic and shredded fontina cheese evenly over the top of the loaf.
- Let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melted and lightly crisp.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Use warm water, not hot, to avoid damaging the yeast.
- For extra flavor add chopped fresh herbs to the dough.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze sliced portions for longer storage.
