Description

Golden, cinnamon-sugar coated French Toast Sticks that are crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Served with maple mascarpone and chocolate caramel dipping sauces, these are a fun, indulgent twist on a classic breakfast favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup (60 milliliters) milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 milliliters) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (8 grams) ground cinnamon
  • 4 slices thick bread (Brioche, Challah, or Shokupan), 1 inch thick and slightly stale
  • Powdered sugar, for serving
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • 8 ounces (227 grams) mascarpone
  • 12 tablespoons (15–30 milliliters) maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) milk
  • 6 ounces (170 grams) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup (160 milliliters) heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  2. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Cut bread slices into thick sticks, about four per slice.
  4. Dip each stick into the egg mixture, coating lightly without soaking.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt a little butter or oil.
  6. Cook sticks until golden and crisp on all sides, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  7. Immediately roll warm sticks in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. For the maple mascarpone dip, whisk mascarpone, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
  9. For the chocolate caramel sauce, heat heavy cream until steaming, pour over chocolate chips, and stir until melted and glossy.
  10. Serve warm French toast sticks dusted with powdered sugar and dipping sauces on the side.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for the best texture.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches for even browning.
  • Keep cooked sticks warm in a 200°F oven while finishing the rest.
