- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 cup uncooked long grain white rice
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil (optional, for sautéing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine uncooked rice, French onion soup, and beef broth.
- Add the cooked ground beef mixture and stir well to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle cheese evenly on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use Swiss cheese for a more traditional French onion flavor.
- Brown rice can be used, but cooking time may need to be increased.
- Add mushrooms or green beans for extra vegetables.
