Description
Flat Bread with Cheesy Beef is a warm and satisfying savory bake made with a soft homemade flat bread base, seasoned ground beef, and a generous layer of melted mozzarella and cheddar. It is easy enough for a weeknight and hearty enough to serve for dinner, lunch, or a casual gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for brushing
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.
- In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Stir in the Greek yogurt and 1 tablespoon olive oil until a soft dough forms.
- In a separate bowl, combine the mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a small drizzle of olive oil, then cook the chopped onion for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in the garlic, paprika, cumin, black pepper, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and tomato paste. Cook for 2 more minutes until fragrant and well combined.
- Roll or press the dough into a rough oval or rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on the prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and cheddar evenly over the top.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the flat bread is cooked through, the edges are lightly golden, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Brush the edges lightly with olive oil if desired, then scatter chopped parsley over the top.
- Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Drain excess grease from the beef if needed so the topping does not become heavy.
- Freshly shredded cheese melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
- Do not overload the flat bread with topping or it may turn soggy in the center.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or a skillet for the best texture.
