Description

Easy Cauliflower Cheese is a comforting dish featuring tender cauliflower florets covered in a rich, creamy cheese sauce, perfect as a side or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil the cauliflower florets in salted water for 5-7 minutes, or until just tender. Drain well and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Slowly add the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the grated cheese and mustard powder (if using) until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Place the cauliflower in an ovenproof dish and pour the cheese sauce over the top, ensuring the cauliflower is well covered.
  7. If using, sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top for a crispy finish.
  8. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and bubbling. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add some grated Parmesan to the cheese sauce.
  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a splash of hot sauce to the sauce.
  • This dish can be made ahead of time and baked just before serving.
