Description
Crawfish Bread is a cheesy, spicy Cajun appetizer made with seasoned crawfish tails, creamy cheese filling, and crusty French bread, baked until golden and bubbly.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf French bread
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 stalk celery, chopped
- 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound cooked crawfish tails, roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup mayo
- 1 teaspoon Creole mustard or spicy brown mustard
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese or other melty cheese
- For garnish: chopped fresh parsley, red chili flakes or paprika
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Slice French bread loaf in half lengthwise. Scoop out some bread to make room for filling if desired. Place on baking sheet.
- Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and bell pepper; cook for 5 minutes to soften.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Add crawfish tails and Cajun seasoning. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in cream cheese and cook until melted and combined, about 2 minutes.
- Transfer mixture to a mixing bowl. Stir in mayo, mustard, and both shredded cheeses until well combined.
- Spread the filling over both halves of bread. Bake for 12 minutes.
- Increase oven heat to broil. Broil bread for 2–3 minutes, until the top is bubbly and browned.
- Remove from oven, cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
- Substitute shrimp or crab meat if crawfish is unavailable.
- Add jalapeños or hot sauce if you prefer more spice.
- This dish can be frozen before or after baking.
- Best served warm, directly after baking or broiling.
