Description

Classic cheese quesadilla is a quick, cheesy, and satisfying dish combining melted cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese with warm, crispy flour tortillas. Ready in under 15 minutes, it’s perfect as a snack, light lunch, or quick dinner, offering comforting flavor with simple ingredients that can be customized easily.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 4 medium flour tortillas (soft but sturdy)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese blend (cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil

Optional Seasonings

  • Pinch of chili powder or cumin (optional)

Serving Accompaniments

  • Sour cream
  • Salsa

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Grate the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses if not pre-shredded. Have your tortillas ready to streamline the cooking process.
  2. Heat the Pan: Warm a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil, creating a golden surface for the tortillas.
  3. Assemble the Quesadilla: Place one tortilla flat in the skillet, sprinkle an even layer of the shredded cheese blend over it, and optionally sprinkle chili powder or cumin. Cover with a second tortilla.
  4. Cook Until Golden: Let cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, pressing gently with a spatula, then carefully flip and cook another 2-3 minutes until both sides are crisp and cheese is melted.
  5. Slice and Serve: Transfer the quesadilla to a cutting board and slice into wedges using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Serve hot with sour cream and salsa or other desired sides.

Notes

  • Cook on medium to low heat to ensure cheese melts fully without burning tortillas.
  • Do not overfill with cheese to avoid sogginess or difficulty handling.
  • Use a lid briefly on the skillet if needed to trap heat for even melting.
  • Press gently with a spatula during cooking for an even crisp texture.
  • Freshly shred cheese at home when possible for better melt and flavor.
