Description

Crispy golden skewers of breaded pork loin, tender on the inside and perfectly seasoned on the outside. A nostalgic Midwest comfort food that delivers crunch and savory flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds pork loin, cut into 1.5 inch cubes
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • Wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Thread pork cubes onto wooden skewers, about 4 to 5 pieces per skewer.
  2. In a shallow bowl season flour with half of the salt and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl whisk together eggs and whole milk.
  4. In a third bowl combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, dried thyme, and remaining salt and pepper.
  5. Dredge each skewer in flour, shaking off excess.
  6. Dip into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  7. Coat thoroughly in breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so crumbs adhere well.
  8. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  9. Fry skewers for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and pork reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Transfer to a paper towel lined plate and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature and crispiness.
  • For baking, cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 40 minutes, turning halfway through.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit to keep the coating crisp.
  • Press breadcrumbs firmly onto the pork for a thicker crust.
