Description

These cilantro lime spicy black bean burgers are bursting with flavor, combining hearty black beans, fresh cilantro, jalapeño, lime, and spices into a satisfying, meatless meal that’s perfect for weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 jalapeño, seeds removed for less spice
  • 1/4 red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 cans black beans (15 oz each), drained and rinsed
  • Juice of 1/2 lime (about 1 Tbsp)
  • 1/3 cup fresh cilantro
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/41/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2/3 cup breadcrumbs (gluten free or panko)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup corn
  • 1 tsp sriracha or hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse jalapeño, red onion, and garlic until finely chopped.
  2. Add black beans, lime juice, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, red pepper flakes, pepper, and salt. Pulse until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  3. Transfer mixture to a bowl and stir in breadcrumbs, egg, corn, and sriracha if using. Mix well to combine.
  4. Form mixture into 6 patties. Chill for 15–30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a bit of oil. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned and heated through.
  6. Serve on buns with desired toppings like avocado, lettuce, and extra lime juice.

Notes

  • Pat black beans dry before using to prevent soggy burgers.
  • Adjust spice level by adding more or less jalapeño and red pepper flakes.
  • Use a flax egg to make the recipe vegan.
  • Chill patties before cooking for better texture and handling.
