- 1/4 red onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 cans black beans (15 oz each), drained and rinsed
- Juice of 1/2 lime (about 1 Tbsp)
- 1/3 cup fresh cilantro
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/4–1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 2/3 cup breadcrumbs (gluten free or panko)
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup corn
- 1 tsp sriracha or hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse jalapeño, red onion, and garlic until finely chopped.
- Add black beans, lime juice, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, red pepper flakes, pepper, and salt. Pulse until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- Transfer mixture to a bowl and stir in breadcrumbs, egg, corn, and sriracha if using. Mix well to combine.
- Form mixture into 6 patties. Chill for 15–30 minutes to firm up.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat with a bit of oil. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned and heated through.
- Serve on buns with desired toppings like avocado, lettuce, and extra lime juice.
Notes

- Adjust spice level by adding more or less jalapeño and red pepper flakes.
- Use a flax egg to make the recipe vegan.
- Chill patties before cooking for better texture and handling.
