Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3 medium/large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 3/4 cups)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F. Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Mash bananas to a chunky applesauce consistency and stir in with vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt separately, then fold into the wet mixture.
  6. Fold in 3/4 cup chocolate chips, reserving 1/4 cup for topping.
  7. Pour batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let bread rest for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas with lots of brown spots for the best flavor.
  • If the bread browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
