Description
Taquitos are crispy, flavorful rolled tortillas filled with seasoned meat or vegetables, perfect for a quick snack or appetizer. Often served with guacamole or salsa for extra flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 small flour tortillas
- 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (or beef, pork, or beans for a vegetarian version)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup salsa or taco sauce
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Optional: sour cream, guacamole, or salsa for dipping
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cheese, salsa, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Warm the tortillas slightly in the microwave or on a skillet to make them more pliable.
- Spoon a small amount of the chicken mixture onto each tortilla and roll tightly into a cylinder.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Carefully place the taquitos seam-side down in the hot oil and fry for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve with optional sides like sour cream, guacamole, or salsa for dipping.
Notes
- For a healthier version, bake the taquitos at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes instead of frying.
- Use ground beef or beans for a different filling variation.
- Prepare in advance and freeze before frying for an easy meal later.
