- 1 lb (450g) gnocchi
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or pork
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook gnocchi according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or pork over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked gnocchi with the Bolognese sauce, mixing until well coated.
- Transfer the gnocchi and sauce mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is golden brown.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version of the Bolognese sauce.
- Serve with a side of garlic bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
