Description

Cheesy Bolognese Gnocchi Bake is a comforting Italian-inspired casserole combining soft gnocchi with a rich, hearty Bolognese sauce, topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) gnocchi
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook gnocchi according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or pork over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cooked gnocchi with the Bolognese sauce, mixing until well coated.
  7. Transfer the gnocchi and sauce mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version of the Bolognese sauce.
  • Serve with a side of garlic bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
