Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 10 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- ¼ cup sweet onion, diced
- ¼ cup green pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dry mustard
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse flour and salt until combined. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Mix egg yolk and water in a small bowl. Add to the processor and pulse until large clumps form. Do not overmix.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface, form into a disk, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Remove dough, roll it out to fit pie dish, and press into the plate. Trim and crimp the edges. Chill while making the filling.
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, onion, green pepper, garlic, salt, oregano, and pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute. Spread mixture into the pie crust.
- In a bowl, beat milk and egg. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, dry mustard, and cheese. Pour evenly over the meat filling.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until crust and cheese are golden brown. Cover crust with foil if browning too fast.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Chill the dough properly to ensure a flaky crust.
- Drain excess fat from the beef to avoid a greasy filling.
- You can prep the pie in advance and bake just before serving.
- Cover edges with foil during baking to prevent over-browning.
