Description

Cajun Potato and Cheddar Sausage Hand Pies are savory pastries filled with spicy Cajun-seasoned mashed potatoes, smoky sausage, and sharp cheddar, baked in a golden, flaky crust—perfect for snacks or meals on the go.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (about 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup cooked sausage, chopped (preferably smoked or cheddar sausage)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade pastry dough)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Flour, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in chopped sausage and shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie crust and cut into 4- to 5-inch circles.
  5. Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling in the center of each circle. Fold over and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Cut a small slit on top of each pie to allow steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.

  • You can make and freeze the hand pies before baking for later use.
