- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 spicy green chilies (Thai green peppers), finely minced
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1 cup buttermilk, chilled
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
- 2 teaspoons finely minced garlic (for brushing)
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped cilantro (for brushing)
- 1/2 teaspoon nigella seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Grate frozen butter directly into the flour mixture. Add shredded cheese, green chilies, cilantro, and green onions. Toss to combine.
- Pour in chilled buttermilk and mix gently until a rough dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and pat into a 1-inch thick disc. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter or knife.
- Place scones on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Mix melted butter with minced garlic and chopped cilantro. Brush over hot scones and sprinkle with nigella seeds if using.
- Serve warm and enjoy.
