Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Place the softened unsalted butter in a large mixing bowl and beat on medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes until pale and creamy.
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until incorporated.
- Add vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream.
- Increase the mixer speed to medium high and beat for 2 to 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- If the frosting is too thick, add the remaining tablespoon of heavy cream a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
- Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store for later use.
Notes
- Make sure the butter is softened but not melted for the best texture.
- Sift powdered sugar to avoid lumps and ensure smooth frosting.
- If frosting becomes too soft, chill briefly and rewhip.
- Frosting can be refrigerated for up to 5 days and rewhipped before use.
