Description
A rich and comforting sandwich featuring smoky bourbon-maple glazed brisket, melted sharp cheddar, and crispy waffles layered between buttery grilled bread for the ultimate comfort food experience.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb brisket (slow-cooked or leftover)
- 1 cup bourbon (substitute apple juice for alcohol-free)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 8 slices sturdy bread
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 pieces waffles (store-bought or homemade)
- Butter to taste (for grilling and spreading)
Instructions
- Slow-cook the brisket in a saucepan over low heat. Pour bourbon and maple syrup over the meat and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender.
- Toast the store-bought waffles lightly until warm and slightly crispy.
- Butter one side of each bread slice and waffle; these will be the exterior grilling surfaces.
- On the unbuttered side of the bread, layer shredded cheddar cheese, followed by bourbon-maple glazed brisket, and more cheese if desired.
- Place a waffle slice over the brisket and close with another buttered slice of bread (buttered side out).
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Grill each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Slice in half and serve warm for the ultimate comfort food experience.
Notes
- Use whole-grain bread for a healthier twist.
- For added flavor, brush extra bourbon maple glaze on the sandwich exterior before grilling.
- Replace bourbon with apple cider for a non-alcoholic version.
- Experiment with cheese varieties like smoked gouda or pepper jack for unique flavor profiles.
