Description

Beef Gravy Potatoes is a hearty dish made with tender beef chunks simmered in a rich, flavorful gravy, served with creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g beef stew meat, cubed
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for mashed potatoes)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for mashed potatoes)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Brown the beef cubes on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring well to make a roux. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture turns golden.
  4. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Return the browned beef to the pot and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender and the gravy thickens.
  6. Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the beef and gravy over the mashed potatoes and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For extra richness, you can add a splash of red wine to the gravy.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, let it simmer uncovered for longer until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • For added flavor, sprinkle some fresh parsley over the dish before serving.
