Description
Beef Gravy Potatoes is a hearty dish made with tender beef chunks simmered in a rich, flavorful gravy, served with creamy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g beef stew meat, cubed
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for mashed potatoes)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for mashed potatoes)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Brown the beef cubes on all sides, then remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring well to make a roux. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture turns golden.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Return the browned beef to the pot and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender and the gravy thickens.
- Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the beef and gravy over the mashed potatoes and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- For extra richness, you can add a splash of red wine to the gravy.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, let it simmer uncovered for longer until it reaches your desired consistency.
- For added flavor, sprinkle some fresh parsley over the dish before serving.
