Description

A rich and comforting upside down cake made with caramelized bananas and a soft, moist vanilla cake base that flips into a glossy, irresistible dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium ripe bananas, sliced lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Melt the unsalted butter and mix it with the brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Spread the butter and sugar mixture evenly over the bottom of the cake pan.
  4. Arrange the sliced bananas neatly over the caramel mixture.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together all purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. In another bowl, beat eggs with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until combined.
  7. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
  8. Gently spread the batter over the banana layer.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes, then carefully flip onto a serving plate.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm bananas for best texture.
  • Flip the cake while still warm to prevent sticking.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
