Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty comfort food dish featuring seasoned ground beef patties baked with a savory mushroom and onion gravy. It’s wholesome, filling, and perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, then shape into 6 patties.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties on both sides until browned, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and paprika.
  5. Transfer patties to a greased baking dish. Pour the sauce mixture over the patties, then scatter sliced mushrooms on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • For extra richness, add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce.
  • This dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
